Manifesto

Welcome to pronutritionist.net.  I publish new study results, contemplate phenomena and pursue to help nutrition professionals in staying up to date. I will soon tell you how, but let us first look at the purpose and objectives of Pronutritionist.

As the name states, the site intends to help and work for nutritionists and dietitians. In the long run, my aim is to build this site into an active forum among nutritionists and improve the skills of nurses and medical professionals on nutrition. Even though I hope professionals would find and embrace the site, I welcome all the followers. I strongly believe that I have learned a lot (and all can) from non-nutritionists during the past two years online.

Purpose of Pronutritionist

The purpose of the service is to connect and help professionals. Regular follow up of new studies is integral part of dietitians’ work. As I’m super-interested in following literature why wouldn’t I share the outcomes of the processes with you?

Blog

In my blog, I post about contemporary subjects, what’s happening behind the scenes and about conflicts, insights and experiences. I also use guest bloggers in widening perspectives. Please contact me if you are willing to send a guest post!  I will prioritize posts written by professionals over others because in Finland (where I’m based) and Northern Europe dietitians, nutritionists, nurses and doctors are overwhelmed by other diet bloggers.

News as PowerPoint slides

I will review new study results as PowerPoint slides. The main fields to be covered are randomized clinical trials, meta-analyses and reviews. I don’t normally publish in vitro or animal trials. You can download the slides for yourself by signing up for SlideShare service. When using slides, please respect the creative commons attribution principle and cite as www.pronutritionist.net. While compiling the slides, I respect the “fair use” principle and do not use screen shots.

Images for bloggers and presenters

You will find a picture gallery within the site. You can make use of these images and publish them on your site or in your presentations. However, you are not allowed to publish images as a gallery online or elsewhere, nor are you allowed to sell images included in the gallery. I own the rights to the pictures and share them with the hope that they delight you. I have bought a seed bank from photographer Mats Vuorenjuuri.

Think of donating an image yourself! Your image might reach thousands of people and make a small difference to your colleague or a stranger. This is your chance to participate and share your images. You will find my personal images on a separate gallery. There will be a separate gallery for donations. Just send me a note on your willingness to share an image and I will come back with details on how to sort it out. Any images that you donate will be handled according to the same principles as the other images within the gallery.

Events calendar

If you are organizing a global, European, continental or Finnish meeting or congress, please let me know. I will publish your event and make it more visible for your potential delegates. You can inform me about your meeting by contact form here.

Newsletter

A newsletter will appear on a monthly basis. It is an effective way of following online news if you don’t have time to review blogs or news feeds. My newsletter will conclude main monthly news from the Pronutritionist site, main news from others’ sites, follow-up buzz stories (like discussions on SAFA) and include a peculiar video story (in English with Finnish accent).

Other features

At the top navigation, you will find some nutrition blogs that are published in English. If you are a professional in nutrition and want to have your blog on the list, let me know.  Also, if you know a relevant blog of someone else, please inform me. I weigh and prioritize blogs that are updated regularly.

You can find my Twitter tweets in the box on the right hand side of the screen. I tweet on clinical nutrition. My Facebook wall is more about casual things.

Languages

This site is edited both in English and Finnish. The aim is to shorten the gap between Finland and the rest of the world. Our isolated language Finnish makes it hard to connect over the borders. As my English is not native, typos are inevitable. Please excuse me for errors in writing.

Additional information

In case you seek something else like partnering, collaborating or advertising, please see the top bar of the page (About or Advertising).

Professional inspiration

I think we all need inspiration. Quite often we are inspired by other people’s efforts or examples. My true inspirational sources are non-nutritionists.  I strongly recommend the following authors, especially if you are pursuing an entrepreneurial career.

Bloggers. Bloggers make it happen. They ship in cost of traditional corporate media. Super content is produced on the blogs by all kinds of people (often without commercial interests). Bloggers and web 2.0 can change the way we learn and work, as Time magazine stated in 2006.  See the list of diet blogs here.

Paulo Coelho. Paulo’s Alchemist is also a business book.We all have our gifts. Embrace them, start doing something you always loved and let the path teach you along the way. This path is not without agonies, but has the potential to fulfill your needs. I even read the book for my kids as a bedtime story.

Bob Dick. Professor Bob Dick taught me about action research during my MBA. He opened my eyes about communication. What we say is so often different from what we mean.  Our intentions seldom translate into our actions.

Tim Ferriss: Tim Ferriss is a phenomenal individual. He is a master in productivity and more, teaches how to override obstacles and how to change your own life into what you aspire.

Seth Godin: Seth intends to change to way we think about work and career. All of us can excel and become “linchpin”. Seth has had a profound effect on my thinking. The new world is about making art (and art is just about anything you can do by engaging and delivering indispensable services or products).

Gordon Livingston: Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart: Thirty True Things You Need to Know Now. This is the book that I translated into Finnish just for fun. Geez, I had a chance to read this book earlier! This book should belong to a primary school’s curriculum. Do you think that you can repeat the same mistakes or have chosen a wrong path? Read this book.
